A desire for fulfilment, a descent into madness: The Yellow Wallpaper’s harrowing ability to tap into our psychological needs has persisted since its publication in 1892. Stifled by domestic life, our protagonist is prescribed a rest cure by her physician husband to take place in the attic room of an isolated house, with the room’s strange wallpaper soon becoming her sole source of mental stimulation. This visually enthralling Greek tragic adaptation features a chorus of women creeping beneath the wallpaper’s surface, offering insights into feminist issues throughout history.
