Deeply tender and sensuous, Sarah Kane’s Crave is set in an unnamed city from which voices and images spring. The play charts the disintegration of human minds under the pressures of love, loss and desire. The play follows A, B, C and M – four initially ungendered characters who have all experienced a bleak past. Their identities are built through the stories they tell, rather than obvious indicators such as name. Themes raised include rape, incest, paedophilia, anorexia, drug addiction, mental instability, murder and suicide.
