Performed by: Bangla Theatre

“The Distant Near” is an attempt to locate Shakespeare, a fine product of European Renaissance through the eyes of Rabindranath, another towering figure in the Bengali Renaissance in the 19th century. This solo presentation shall look inquiringly at the meeting of the two great minds who sing the grandeur of man’s struggle against great odds of life, highlighting Rabindranath’s creative appreciation of Shakespeare in a combination of selection of Shakespearean theatre and Rabindranath’s own plays, songs, and poetry.
