Marcel Pursued By the Hounds by Michel Tremblay

2012 V39

Brylights

Tremblay’s contemporary works explore a deprived Québécois working class, rife with melodrama and drawing on Greek tragedy. Both Marcel and his ferociously unforgiving sister Thérèse are hounded by memory, reputation and an unsatisfactory present. Their situation in life has trapped them and they eke out an existence amidst a violent and seedy world of crime and corruption. Three Fates based on the classical Morai, weave, measure and cut the cloth of human existence, as they respond to their stories and hope for their redemption. (Translated by John Van Burek and Bill Glassco).
