The Furness Influence

Our devised performance is all our own creative work, focusing on heavy physical theatre and movement exploration and the manipulation of three wooden blocks. Inspired by Philip Larkin’s poem ‘This Be the Verse’, we follow four individual young people through the process of growing up, and how those around you influence who you become. “Something true and meaningful is at the core of this piece.” (Stage hand) An abstract, intense and emotionally raw performance, with a minimal set design enhancing our pure ability as an ensemble. Choreographed movement transitions echo the transitions of our four caricatured teenagers. “As an ensemble we strive to explore the boundaries of modern-day theatre. We want to voice our concerns and display our passion for the arts.” (Company Manager). Performed ironically by four students, we first created the performance for our A-Level drama exam and we would like to share our ideas of social construction with the public. “It arouses emotions that I never thought would move me in such a powerful manner, it gave me that feeling in the pit of my stomach; the feeling of overwhelming doubt.” (Audience member- parent).
