After the Accident by Julian Armitstead

2012 V39

Brylights

Armitstead’s topical drama explores the highly-charged process of restorative justice (which attempts to repair harm caused by crime) through the confrontation between joyrider Leon, guilty father Jimmy and vengeful mother Petra, who lost six-year-old Charley four years earlier. This play won Amnesty International’s Protect the Human playwriting competition in 2008 and has now made it into print and onto Radio 4. Armitstead describes it as, ‘An imaginative rather than documentary exploration of the restorative justice process’ (IceAndFire.com). A moving and challenging piece that unpicks the web of emotional devastation after the accident.
