Miss Havisham's Ghosts
One of Dickens' most notorious and mysterious female characters is the centre of this one-woman show. A powerful piece, short, intense and with touches of suitably Dickensian melodrama. Trish Knight-Webb's Miss Havisham broods, snaps, smiles and frowns as she contemplates her strange life before, and since, her disastrous wedding day. We learn her appalling secret and subsequent revenge upon men and the world. In an interview on 'Woman's Hour', Stephen Poliakov said that 'Great Expectations' was a very influential novel and the terrifying moment when nine-year-old Pip meets with this monster leaves a lasting impression.
